Nguiu

Location

Nguiu is located on the south east corner of Bathurst Island. It is approximately 70km north of Darwin or 20 minutes by air. Air Ngukurr and Eastlands provide 3 flights daily to and from Darwin. The population is approximately 1450.

Community Services and Facilities

The main administrative and finance divisions of Tiwi Islands Local Government are located in the Council offices in Nguiu. The day to day management of the Nguiu Community is the responsibility of the Nguiu Community Services officer under direction from the Nguiu Community Management Board. There is a Centrelink agency, EFTPOS, Commonwealth Bank agency and a Post Office located in the Council Offices.

Other facilities include a new swimming pool complex, sports and recreation hall, football ovals, market garden and golf course, modern childcare centre, community transport and workshop facilities.

CDEP

The TILG Community Development Employment Program provides employees and equipment for community maintenance, hygiene and sanitation, sport and recreation programs, transport services, night patrols, essential services, civil works, administration, education, health, arts, tourism, textile production and workshop services.
